Only a parent's heart would know...

Kai with his bedtime 'friends' (anti-clockwise from bottom left): (partial of) Eeyore, Platypus, and Care Bear. Rabbit apologises for not being present; he was flung out of frame.

...how I feel when I look at Kai while he sleeps. Terence called me a "smittened kitten" as I stared at my three-year old tonight.

I told myself that one day, I will take a photo of him while he sleeps so that I'll always remember the picture of innocence and his cherubic features for a long time to come. So here I was, in our hotel room in Sentosa, trying to find a comfortable position to hold the camera still long enough (for the shutter to stay open in the dark) to snap a picture of Kai.

This is it. Done with a swollen belly. Without a tripod. With abated breath.

On the way back to our room, we walked under the canopy of a row of lovely fragipani trees. Light pink flowers covered our path, and Kai was thrilled. He picked them up and I told him what a good boy was he to make a lovely bouquet of flowers for us.

He was so excited when I said we'll try to find a vase for them. So here it is, Kai's creation in our room. It was Terence's idea to use the cup. The look in Kai's eyes was precious when he placed the flowers in the cup.

How lovely. Flowers to herald a new day in our new rental apartment tomorrow.

Rascal at the National Museum of Singapore

video

Kai clearly enjoyed the Verner Panton exhibit at the National Museum of Singapore more than the adults. He got so excited and tired that by noon, he had meltdown when it was time to go. *sigh*

Baby socks fashion

I spied these baby socks on a newborn when Kai was crawling and learning how to run. (He wanted to switch immediately from first gear to fifth.) It looked like the baby was wearing real shoes and I LURVE them (the ribbons are not printed; they are actually laces).

It didn't make sense to buy them for Kai then. So if I ever had the chance, I'd get them for my friends' babies and the best thing is, they come in all sorts of patterns! You have Mary Janes, ballet shoes, sandals, cowboy boots etc.

Mothers Work keeps stock of these cute socks, and I bought them for our second baby. Lucky kid; this is one item that wouldn't be a hand-me-down from big brother. Do check out the other adorable patterns they have in store (at Great World City).

Here we go again...

A cold towel to bring down a 40-degree c fever (taken with my Nokia E63)

Kai is down with a fever again. He still refuses to take his medicine and we had to bribe him with Jelly beans. Bad parenting? Yes, I suppose but we've tried just about everything else. (Thank you Aunty Jorina for your Jelly Belly!)

Educating mummy

Kai (Holding up Toad the brake van): Call this, mummy.

Me: Er... Hello Toad?

Kai: *Pause for a moment* What you call this, mummy?

Me: Er... What do I call this? (What's he talking about?)

Kai: *Says knowingly* Mummy, this is a brake van.

Me: Ohhhh...

Grandparents

Grandparents are good for the pocket. They buy toys that Kai wants so that we don't have to. Here's the extensive Thomas & Friends set that we now have in the living room.

Kai has plenty of reasons to cheer.

But seriously. I like the fact that Kai has an opportunity to interact with his grandparents, especially his paternal grandparents who have been instrumental in bringing him up. I wasn't very close with mine mainly because of a language barrier. My parents didn't teach me any dialects (Cantonese and Hokkien), and I was very shy as a kid. I am sure there were plenty of stories they could have shared with me about their past, but I'll never know them now.

Happy birthday 1, 2 & 3!

For Kai's third birthday, he had three birthday cakes as we couldn't get everyone (i.e. grandparents and classmates) together on his actual birthday for one big bash. Anyway, I think it makes the occasion a little more special for him.

Here's birthday cake #1 (fruit cake from Bengawan Solo), then...
Cake #2 (Thomas & Friends cake from Polar Puffs & Cake), and finally...

Decadent ice cream cake from Häagen-Dazs.
