Wanton mee at Kampong Arang

Terence brought me to Kampong Arang again to eat. That place makes me feel very depressed. Maybe because it's a 'sunset estate'; there're no kids, just disgruntled looking old folks and old beer buddies drinking their time away.

Anyway, the Wanton mee there is supposedly quite good. But IMHO, it was just ok only though some might like the really tangy noodles. However, I was rather taken by the bowls which they use to serve the soup. It reminds me of the bowls they used in my primary school canteen.

I think he's falling sick

It all started yesterday. I'm already sick (flu), and he didn't want his last milk feed in the evening. He was very unsettled through out the night, and he woke up at 6am this morning. (URGH!) He only had two milk feeds today out of his usual four. The last time he was like this was during the Australia trip, on the plane. So I think he's sick thought I might be wrong, but they don't call this "mother's instincts" for nothing. Anyway, he ate his solids and we made him drink some water to prevent dehydration.

BTW, Shrek the Third SUCKS.

Something frivolous: Our Guilin home

Should I change the name of my blog soon? We're moving soon after all.

For folks who've not seen our place, our housing agent has done a very nice virtual showroom on our behalf.

I'll miss this place. Sometimes you can see eagles, and other birds flying over and around the quarry.

Child of our Times

We needed ideas for the new home, and this was a good chance to pick up some interior mags using the $20 Times Bookshop voucher. In addition to picking up a "Calvin and Hobbes" comic, our Gemini went around smearing his fingerprints on the glass window. I'm sure the staff won't be pleased. :p

This is the way I brush my teeth

...early in the morning

Swimming!

He can walk now

Kai at Ramen Ramen!

The porridge tastes...

yummy! It has to be, Terence made it for him.

Kai's vocabulary: Part 2

"bear" = bear
"isi" = exit (!!!)
"ou" = I think "owl" or "out"
"op-eh" = "open
"i go" = go
# # #

There's an "exit" sign at the staircase leading up to mom-in-law's place. So everytime we go down, we'll see it and I think we (Terence, me, mom-in-law) have been pointing it out to him on different occasions.

Yesterday Terence fetched him home, and he is pretty sure Kai said "isi" after he said "exit".

No pictures until I hook the new camera to PC/laptop. *hrumpf*

Something frivolous: What Kai's star sign says about him

GEMINI (May 22--June 21)

This child is one of the world's natural communicators. Variety is the spice of Gemini's life. Like a butterfly, he finds the next activity much more interesting than the first. He can be a noisy chatterbox, exhaustingly full of high physical energy, a quick mover. His interest isn't easily sustained so boredom sets in very readily.

Personality key: Quick, talkative, clever, witty, dextrous, intelligent, logical, expressive, verbal and adaptable.

Parent power: Staying power can be encouraged by ensuring Baby Gemini masters one subject thoroughly before moving to the next.

It's so true!

Something frivolous: I am Spring

You Are Spring!

Airy

What this means: I'm an airhead?!

Kai's vocabulary

"Care!" = Cat
"Ca" = Car
"Eh!" = Train
"Da!" = Duck
"Bal bal" = Ball
"Bow" = "Bowl"
"Stah!" = Star, but only when he's in the mood
"Pa pa pa pa pa" = Anything and everything else in the world

Mom-in-law was very insistent that he knows how to point to the watermelon flashcard when she says xi gua (or watermelon in Chinese). I tested him: I picked up all the flashcards, took out the watermelon card, and placed all the other cards on the floor. I said: "Where is xi gua?" He looked and looked, and then started flipping the cards around to look for xi gua!

I did the same thing again, except this time I put the watermelon card back in. He pointed to the card almost immediately when asked.

But he's not learned other objects yet.

So. It's no wonder some people are huge believers in hot housing.

My first mother's day

A couple of thoughts:
1. My child is a blessing: Saw an older girl (about six years old?) with cerebral palsy at the pool over the weekend. She couldn't walk, couldn't talk. But we're happy for her because we could see that her father and maid loves her very much. So many things can go wrong during a pregnancy, and so I'm thankful for Kai.

2. Maintaining a marriage is hard work: He laments about the two pair of pants that I promised to mend, but have not done so for several months. I shake my head at the window which he forgets to close and the air-con he leaves on just before he goes to work (and which I discover only when I get home at night). It's so easy to neglect the relationship when motherhood comes along and work always gets in the way, but it is so important to keep the romance alive.

3. Never say never: Keep an open mind. I used to scoff at people who play golf; what's the challenge of chasing a stupid white ball around the field? But I needed a sport which I can play together with Terence when we grow old. So ok, I went to learn golf almost grudgingly and damn, all I can think of now is: Why can't I @#$%-ing chip properly? (PLUS: I thought the chance of Joy or Corinne learning how to drive a car was ZERO but what do you know! They're both learning how to drive! Good for them!)
